Always one story of many that stands out in my mind. It happened back
in the 70's, before Wendy and Stu got married. Stu and I had just set
up offices at 6333 Romaine in Hollywood for Miracle Films, ("If it's a
good film it's a miracle"!). We were, If I recall correctly, on the
third floor and took the elevator up every morning. Wendy was the
receptionist at the front desk and she and I became friendly. Wendy
had a wonderful youthfull presence, big smile and wanted to know
everything about everyone. As I remember she was dating the owner of
the building, a real jerk! I don't even think she liked this guy
because everyday, and I mean everyday she would ask me about a guy
that worked at Miracle. She said she thought he was cute. (I've
known Stu for 40 years and I gotta tell you, he may be fun, bright
handsome and loving....but cute?).
Anyway, ever day Wendy would find some excuse to stop and talk to me
but it was always about Stuart. After awhile it sunk into my thick
head that she really digged this guy. Wendy was funny........I said
that I would say something to Stuart to maybe get something started
but Wendy said she was too embarrassed. Finally, I said to Stuart
that the receptionist, downstairs, Wendy Wessberg, had a crush on him.
I told Wendy and she was embarrassed and mad, (but not mad), that I
said something. The rest is, as they say, HISTORY.
I realize that to most this wouldn't be much of a story but to me it
was watching 2 people, I think the world of, catch on fire for the
first time. Stuart is blessed to have Wendy in his life and 2 great
kids. I really believe that all the success Stuart has had has come
because of enormous support from his love and best friend, Wendy,
still "google eyed" over "cute" Stuart.
Love to you Wendy and big hugs to Ricki Krelmn, aka Stuart Segall.
